Welcome to 2022! I hope you were able to spend some quality time with your loved ones this past holiday season. Many of you helped us kick off the season last month at the DSA’s annual Children’s Christmas Party. It was great to see so many familiar faces and also to welcome some families to their first-ever DSA member event. Be sure to check out the photos from the party on page 10 of this issue.
The DSA enjoyed participating in a couple of community events last month as well. On December 11, we partnered with the Rock Church’s San Marcos campus to give out 200 stuffed kids’ stockings and books during their annual Toys for Joy event. Then, on December 18, we partnered up with the City of Lemon Grove to provide stockings and books to families at the city’s monthly food drive event. Lt. Pat McEvoy played a very convincing Santa that day, with multiple families stopping to take photos of him with their kids. It was great to be involved in these holiday events and further reinforce to the community that deputies are there to help.
Looking ahead here at the DSA, the next couple of months will bring about some evolving dynamics. The results of the director election will be announced at the January 13 member meeting and any new directors will be sworn in at the 2022 Board Installation Luncheon on January 27. In February, three directors will be nominated to fill the roles of president, vice president, and secretary/treasurer. Committees will also be assigned. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all of those fronts.
Lastly, I want to take a moment to recognize outgoing DSA director Danielle Benjamin. Danielle’s term is up with this election cycle and she has decided against seeking re-election. Danielle contributed much to the association as a station representative before she joined the DSA board officially in 2020 when she took over for another DSA director who was retiring. Danielle has been an active and passionate advocate for deputies from the beginning. We are grateful to Danielle for her years of dedication to the association and its members. We’ll miss you, Danielle!
Regardless of the election results, the DSA will continue to strive to provide our members with the best benefits possible. We welcome your input. Happy New Year!⭑
